Roy Stanley Benson was born on December 7, 1906, in Concord, N.H. He received his commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1929. He advanced to rear admiral in 1956, and was commander of the Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor from 1960 to 1962. He retired in 1968. Benson died February 7, 1995.
